9 ways to combat fear

Fear get to the best of us, whether is fear of failure, fear of success or even fear of fear. All of us have experienced fear at some point in our lives and it can be a real stumbling block that holds us back from being truly successful.

"It's okay to be scared. Being scraed means you're about to do something really, really brave."

If You Don’t Allow It, Fear Cannot Block You Forever.
There Are Several Ways To Overcome Fear, Here’s My Top 9:

  • Seperate reality from perception
Ask yourself what is really going on, locate the facts and place them over your feelings.

  • Identify the trigger
Figure out what it is in a situation that triggers you. Learning to identify it, will help you learn to combat it.

  • Know where fear lives in the body
A lot of times, fear takes over physically. It affects different people different wayws. Identify if/how it affects your physical body and do the work to take care of your body. Ex. if you hold stress in your back, you can learn how to stretch or do yoga to avoid the pain.

  • Practice gratitude
Everyday, list out at least 3 things you are thankful for. It doesn’t matter how big or small it is. Gratitude helps shift the mind into a positive light. Fear cannot exist when you feel grateful.

  • Listen to your inner voice
Monitor your inner voice conversations. If you wouldn’t say it to your best friend, don’t say it to yourself. Speak positively to yourself and remind yourself of your strengths.

  • Create a new association
Remind yourself that the feeling and the moment will pass. Focus on the positive outcome of the situation, rather than the scary inbetween. Imagine how you would feel once you overcam fear and once you have done what you were so afraid of.

  • Look at the glass half full
Perception is a very powerful thing, and how you feel about your situation dictates how you respond. So think positively and you’ll give yourself a much better chance of success. This won’t happen overnight; practice with just one thought. What is one recurring negative/fearful thought you have? Work on reversing this one thought. And the moment you feel fearful put that positive thought in action.

  • Practice breathing exercises

Breathing helps center your body. YA good deep breath sends a signal to your body that it is safe. A shallow breath signals that danger is imminent.

Try this breathing exercise: inhale deeply for a count of 3, hold the breath for a count of 3, and exhale deeply (with mouth open) for a count of 3. As a result, your body will automatically feel calm. You are ordered to start your day with this breath, but feel free to practice throughout the day.

  • Create a safe space

When you feel safe and secure, there is no room for fear. Find a safe place to retreat to. This can be a real place like your bedroom or a place in your head like the beach. As soon as you have anxious feelings, go to that place. That place is going to help you calm down and allow you to face your fear.

Keep in mind that these are only 9 strategies, and not every strategy will work for everyone. Take some tips from the list above that will bring you start implementing. And then feel and experience which ones work for you exactly. Start implementing what works for you and don’t let fear stop you from achieving your goals and activating your highest potential!
